New DART-nuun video...

The team had a small presentation for nuun last night at their vendor party where we showed this video and talked a bit about our sport. Thanks to Erik (our team Manager) for putting this together, it turned out great!

Racing the Planet

Monday November 12th we headed to REI to hear a presentation by 'Dr. Extreme', or Dr. Brian Krabak, about his experiences as the Medical Director for the Racing the Planet running series. The race takes place in 4 deserts accross the globe, which has a bit of interest to me as the deserts of Moab recently handed me a big F-U...and I am a bit intrigued by races through these miserable environments.

There were a handful of local adventure racers and ultra runners on hand and it was nice to see everyone. As well, there was a panel consisting of Dimitri Keiffer, Roger Michel and a Physical Therapist from Bellevue. It is great to hear insights into various people's preparation for these events, the one that caught my attention was an individual who had run three of the Racing the Planet events, had run in place for up to an hour a night while barefoot in a rubbermaid filled with rice. Evidently this toughened his feet up enough to run blisterless through his last race. WOW.

This race series seems pretty sweet and would be a good excuse for me to start ejoying running more.

Ropes clinic and camera

Last week we had a small ropes clinic for some friends and teams getting into AR. It was great and the fact that we got each student to rappel off of the train trestle was a success in itself. I never would have guessed when my friends were shoving me off of the train trestle on exit 38 that I would be doing the same thing, in a more humane way...my guess is that the students will be just as hooked on AR as I have become, if they aren't already. You can read the DART-nuun news release for the clinic here.

I am still going through withdrawals for lack of a camera. I need to get back on the program and order a camera pronto...this will give me more things to write about or at least more content. The camera I prefer (a lot of racers have asked) is the Pentax Optio W30, mostly because it is waterproof, but it also takes a solid picture once you figure out how to utilize all of the functions and mine took a licking and kept on ticking. I think my old camera is still taking pictures at the bottom of the ocean, unless its batteries ran out.

On a side note a friend recomended this book entitled Fixing Your Feet...probably worth checking out with all of our treking exploits.
